Sunderland Minster

(The Minster Church of  St Michael & All Angels, with St Hilda & Benedict Biscop )  - situated at the heart of the ancient parish of Bishopwearmouth

Welcome to these pages - not presented as an 'Official View' - that is  normally provided for elsewhere, on www.sunderlandminster.org That site has had problems but I rejoice that it is now being restored to life --it iwas always well worth looking at, and I know that it will be more so once all updates are completed. I will therefore endeavour to keep the 'Services'  page of this site up to date once the Official site is fully back with us. (unfortunately I have not found it possible to get an update of future services via email.

As a start, the new Index page is up and running and the intentions expressed in this 'Mission prayer' on that page is most welcome !

Almighty and eternal God,
who created us in your own image and gave us the will to seek after all that is good, true and beautiful,
we give you thanks for the freedom of communication.
Grant, we pray you, that through our journeys in this website we may be led to charity,
prayer, patience and greater understanding of each other

and that we may discern more closely, your will for your pilgrims here on earth.
To the glory of the Word made Flesh.
Amen.

In this personal site I aim to urge more interest in  the values and content (generally) of the Book of Common Prayer  - but perhaps in a less formal way than most church websites. My view and tastes are, in fact far more broad than has been suggested by some - I  enjoy GOOD modern  writings  and a  great variety of modern music in all genres.  I know that many, if not most, folk will not entirely agree with me. I therefore invite opinions, contributions or general comment and promise to publish them on the "Articles" page, as received.

The articles page is for general topics , but I have reserved a page for the  Prayer Book Society, and I print a sample of previous magazine  articles  there.

...which also covers something of the extensive history of this well-loved church. Chiefly is it intended to show that the building still houses a vibrant church and community which intends to welcome everyone .

The text for both the Rectors page and also the History page is not my work and I acknowledge with gratitude the authors of both pieces. They have given me immense pleasure in reading both texts, and I take equal joy in introducing their work to other readers. The "Rectors"  and "Tour"  pages have also been  enhanced with  images presented in a various styles. The photographs are my own efforts and I hope that they add to enjoyment of these pages

Visit these and the other pages in this section by clicking the names at the top of those pages -- but first click on the picture, above left, to enter the site proper.

I also hope that the alternative maps (below ) will be of assistance to strangers to the city.

Those travelling by rail or Metro  to SUNDERLAND station/Metro can reach the Minster either by walking through the Crowtree Shopping and Leisure Centre, or following the Main Road on either side of this complex.

Travelling by bus or Metro to the Park Lane Interchange, the Minster is reached via Park Lane, skirting the Leisure centre Complex and walking down Green Terrace. The Crowtree Leisure and Shopping Centre includes Multi-level Car parks for those visiting by car.
