(The Minster Church of  St Michael & All Angels)

Welcome to these pages - not presented as an 'Official View' - that is  now provided for elsewhere. In this site , As an 'Old-fashioned' Anglican who has been described by a senior member of the minster clergy as ' having a particular view of Church life and worship' I try to urge more interest in, and attention to, the values and content (generally) of the Book of Common Prayer  - but perhaps sometimes in a less formal way than the usual church websites. My view and tastes are, in fact far more broad than has been suggested - I can appreciate GOOD modern  writings  and a variety of modern music in all genres and am prepared to grant that many, if not most, folk will not entirely agree with me. I therefore invite opinions, contributions or general comment and will be  publish them on the  "Articles" page, as received.

The articles page is for general topics , but I have reserved a page for the  Prayer Book Society -I print a sample of their magazine  articles  there. The "Rectors"  and "Tour"  pages have also been (hopefully) enhanced with further images, presented in a different style

The site also covers something of the history (which is extensive) of this well-loved church, but chiefly it is intended to show that the building still houses a vibrant church and community which welcomes everyone.

The text for both the Rectors page and also the History page is not my work and I acknowledge this with gratitude to the authors of both pieces. They have given me immense pleasure in reading both texts, and I take equal pleasure in, hopefully, introducing their work to other readers. Visit the other pages in this section by clicking the names at the top of those pages -- but first click on the picture, above left, to enter the site proper.

The photographs are my own efforts and I hope that they add to enjoyment of these pages.

I also hope that the alternative maps (below ) will be of assistance to strangers to the city.

Those travelling by rail or Metro  to SUNDERLAND station/Metro can reach the Minster either by walking through the Crowtree Shopping and Leisure Centre, or following the Main Road on either side of this complex.

Travelling by bus or Metro to the Park Lane Interchange, the Minster is reached via Park Lane, skirting the Leisure centre Complex and walking down Green Terrace.

The Crowtree Leisure and Shopping Centre includes Multi-level Car parks for those visiting by car.

Now, an urgent appeal !

The Minster Church choir needs volunteers  ... from people who will be able to sing the regular services, at Special events both at the church at elsewhere. We have vacancies for singers in all parts, irrespective of experience (although a few really experienced members would be a great boon).    Please see the Minster Music page for details.

Other Churches and Cathedrals. Please visit this page which has recently been updated with two further sets of images, Blackburn Cathedral, Selby Abbey and the two St. Mary's, Isles of Scilly, churches in Hugh Town and Old Town.    Click HERE or the box at the top of the other pages to visit.
